One Year Anniversary CALL FOR ARTISTS

Deadline for response: September 28, 2012

EMP Collective is celebrating its first year of producing fresh new work and providing low-cost, accessible space for local and visiting artists in downtown Baltimore.

Timed oh-so-fortuitously is our move upstairs to a brand spanking new (to us, at least) space for EMP!

Yes, we are saying a tearful goodbye to the alley and “WHUT UP” to Baltimore Street this October. We want to christen the new space EMP-style by inviting our collaborating artists from the past year and YOU to transform the space in a large-scale Exquisite Corpse execution.

What is Exquisite Corpse?
Exquisite Corpse is a game that was co-opted by those pesky Surrealists. They, in turn, developed it into a collaborative exercise they believed tapped into the collective consciousness of a group and “exploit[ed] the mystique of accident.”

The process is fairly straight-forward. You begin with a folded paper and an initial image. Each participant builds off the last blindly, given only a few connecting lines to work from. At the finish, the paper is unfolded revealing a whole monstrous work – an exquisite corpse, if you will.

How Ours Works
Exquisite Corpse reflects our passion for collaboration, the spirit of spontaneity, and our love of spectacle. Participating artists will be given a session and a section of wall transform as they see fit. We have had a blast the first year of EMP and think this is a pretty fitting celebration going into our second year of operation. We welcome our past gallery artists and new local friends to participate.

Contact to confirm a piece of space and construction dates. Deadline to contact is September 28, 2012. Opening Party will be November 2, 2012
